Usually there within 20–40 min / Fixed price on the phone / Card and Swish

Why we always check ID

Before we open any door, we check two things: who you are, and that you live there. Any photo ID works, from any country: a passport, a residence permit card, a Swedish ID card. You don't need a Swedish personnummer.

To show you live there, a name on the door, post at the address, a rental or sublet contract on your phone or a bank app with your address usually does it. If your ID is inside, we check it just inside the door before you go further. More on the ID check.

How to spot a dodgy locksmith

  • No price before the drive. A serious locksmith gives you a fixed price on the phone. "We'll see when we get there" is a warning.
  • No ID check. If they open without asking who you are, they would do the same for a stranger at your door.
  • Drilling straight away. Most locks open without damage. Pressure to drill and replace at once is a sign of upselling.
  • Cash only, no receipt. You should always be able to pay by card and get a receipt.
  • A new price at the door. The price on the phone should be the price you pay. Extras only with your yes, price first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I call in English?

Yes. The whole call, the price and the job can be in English.

How long until you arrive?

Usually within 20–40 min of the end of your call. We tell you on the phone if it will take longer.

How much does it cost?

One fixed amount, given on the call before we leave. Booked daytime openings start from SEK 1 295; outside office hours you get the price on the phone. See prices.

Do you charge extra for distance?

No. There is no distance charge anywhere in the Stockholm region.

I don't have a personnummer yet. Is that a problem?

No. A passport or any other photo ID works, together with something that shows you live at the address.

What is a "portkod"?

The door code for the street door of an apartment building. Give it to us on the call if you know it. If the building uses only a key fob at night, someone needs to let us in.

My landlord has an on-call number. Should I call them first?

Yes, it is worth trying. Some landlords can let you in. If nobody answers or they can't help, call us. See renting in Stockholm.

Will you break my lock?

Usually not. We start with non-destructive opening. Drilling only happens after you have heard the price and said yes.

Can you change the lock tonight?

Yes, if you need it: after lost or stolen keys, a break-in or when someone you don't trust has a key. Common cylinders are in the van.

How can I pay?

Card or Swish on site. Businesses can pay by invoice. You always get a receipt.

I was burgled. Who do I call first?

The police. Call 112 if it is happening now, otherwise 114 14 to report it. Then call us to secure the door.

My smart lock is dead. What now?

Try the built-in backup first: a Yale Doorman takes emergency power from a 9-volt battery on the outside, and a Nimly has a mechanical emergency key. If that doesn't work, call. See smart locks.

Does anyone answer at night?

Yes. A person answers every call, day and night. No voicemail.

Will my insurance pay?

It depends on your policy. A break-in is often covered, a simple lockout rarely. Keep our receipt either way.
